This classic modern house was given a fresh, new outlook. Tired, worn windows and doors were replaced with larger openings and skylights to bring in the light and views. A neutral palette and bleached white oak flooring soften the basic geometric structure and provide much needed warmth. To provide the necessary modern amenities, the kitchen and bathrooms were completely upgraded.
An eclectic mix of period vintage and custom-made pieces is compiled and perfectly suited, not only to the character of the house, but also for the weekend retreat of a sophisticated, urbane couple. Raw silk, linen, heavily grained wood finishes, and natural materials provide subtle texture to the sumptuously restrained furnishings.
The focal point of the house, a double-height living area, features white sheer draperies, custom-made upholstery, unique ceruse oak and linen webbed chairs, and a grand travertine and patina bronze coffee table — all grouped around a refined hearth of French limestone and over-scaled leather wrapped circular mirror. In a subtle variation of the main palette, the master bedroom suite is a luxurious, glamorous retreat of mahogany, cashmere, satin, and silk.
Throughout the house, the artwork focuses on works of a water theme. From black-and-white photography of the coast to typographic incantations of natural wonders, the collection features a variety of artists exploring different media and techniques.
The landscaping and outdoor areas reinforce the mood of the house — a combination of the relaxed, and the sophisticated, organized around a serene setting. Long planes of ipe decking descend from the house to surround the pool in a series of gentle cascading planes and provide ample room for sunbathing and a spa-worthy outdoor shower.
The house is relaxed yet chic; tailor-made for the entertainment of clients and friends, or to simply take in the tranquil scenery.
