Originally constructed by famed interior designer Angelo Donghia, this quintessential beachfront Fire Island home has been completely renovated and updated for the fashion designer Derek Lam and his partner Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann.

Expanding on the unique “tower” configuration of the existing structure, the extensive renovation includes a master bedroom and bath addition, a reconfigured new façade which opens the house to the ocean and new decking and landscaped grounds. The design takes advantage of the unparalleled views with a strong emphasis on natural woods and materials that consider the sea air climate and will deepen into a stunning weathered patina over time.

The interior combines the best of intelligent planning, ease of maintenance, and warm textural finishes, offset by sparkling, crisp-white accents. With a nod to the history of the original house and creator, the furnishings are an eclectic blend of early modernist pieces and iconic elements of the “high-tech” movement of the 1970’s.
